Baby Delivery Charges in Klang Valley

You guys have no idea how many hospitals and clinics we have went to. We started off at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, with Dr. Kiren. No, we did not have a recommendation. We just called and asked for whoever was available for the 4pm slot and were faced with two options: Dr Kiren or Dr Parmena. Later, I learned that I should have opt for the second but it was a bit too late.

Dr Kiren was fine - nothing fancy, except for posters of a few hindu gods or goddesses (or the like) that threw me off. And the ultrascan. Oh, the ultrascan. She insisted that I went out of the clinic to the hallway, drank some water and came back later when I really felt like going. If not, she wouldn't do the scan. I hated that. Anyway, Consultation Fees came up to RM150, and the Ultrascan costed like RM90, so it was RM240 for us.

No, I didn't go back there. After that was the visit to my sister's gynea, Dr Delaila from SDMC. She's amazing. She even has a clinic that opens after office hours, at 8pm-10.30pm in SS19, Subang Jaya. But we visited her in the afternoon, so her clinic was closed and we had to make an appointment to see her in SDMC instead. But we told her that our next check-up would be at her clinic. We couldn't make appointments at the clinic, though. It is for walk-ins only.

Our next few visits costed us an hours drive each from PJ because of the terrible rush hours in order to be at the clinic by 8pm. Yes, the Federal Highway and SJ jams are ridiculous. But we survived and struggled through those jams - morning sickness and all. The prices were fine, too - about the same as Pantai, just the other way around. Consultation Fees was about RM65, Ultrascan RM150, and supplements came up to RM240. It seemed to be that price for the next few check-ups.

And then it happened... It was a check-up that she chose. Remember I said that we couldn't make appointments? Well, this time she did. For us. And gave me her private number, too. That was because I was spotting and almost cried in the clinic because I thought it was 'the end'. So she gave me instructions to lie down for 2 weeks and some medication to stop the bleeding. Well... guess what? Two weeks later, when we went for check up, the clinic was closed. We waited, and waited...

Finally, we decided to come back another day. We did. It was still closed. Hmmm... So we called SDMC.

"Ms Delaila is on leave for the next four months or indefinitely."

"What?!"

"Uh... uh.. Wait.. Let me check again.... Err,.. Yes,... Indefinitely."

"....!!!...Why? What happened?"

"I... don't know... I'm sorry."

I was hoping nothing really bad happened to her. All kinds of thoughts flashed across my mind - maybe one of her family members died and she had to go overseas? Or maybe one of her family members had cancer - one of her kids? And she had to go overseas to take care of them. All I knew was that this was unplanned - because if it was, she wouldn't have made that appointment...

Then one morning, my mother read aloud a News Report on Facebook, posted by one of my church members, "When Dr Delaila Ahmad faced off with a snatch thief outside her clinic at 1.20am on Tuesday, she never thought she would have to undergo 12 hours of surgery..." I looked at her, square in the face. What was that?!

My mum looked back at me and seeing the expression on my face said calmly, "'Dr Delaila'... Oh, is that your gynea?"

"Yeaa...." I said, dumbfounded.

"She was robbed?!"

So that's how it happened. You can read more on her story later. Sigh. There goes a good gynea. She would only be back in October... or that's what I thought. A few months later, when my brother was almost admitted to SDMC himself, my husband checked on her status and found out that she was still on leave... indefinitely.

Sigh. So we looked for another gynea and finally decided on getting my own gynea - you know,... the one who delivered me. Ahah. You must be thinking, 'Is he even alive?' Matter of fact, yes. And still in Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

I called, "Hi, I would like to make an appointment with Dr Thomas."

"Dr Thomas is on leave indefinitely."

"What?!"

"Yes."

"What happened?"

"He fell down this morning, at about 3am, and broke his skull. He is currently himself undergoing surgery." *faint* "Anyway, he doesn't deliver babies anymore. He is old already. He only treats older patients and does check ups on them."

"But.. he was my mom's gynea - he delivered me. My gynea from SDMC was just robbed recently and is on leave until October. I just need him to do check-ups on me and then I can go back to my gynea for delivery."

"Yea, but the surgery. He is on leave indefinitely. We wouldn't know when he can come back... Would you like me to recommend you to another doctor?"

"=/ Alright..."

"There's Dr Chew and Dr Wong. They are both really good doctors."

It turned out that those were one of the first few gyneas my godmother recommended earlier before I ended up with Dr Kiren - too bad I didn't see her Whatsapp in time.

So back to Pantai it was... Dr Chew, this time.

Dr Chew had his own clinic on the Ground Floor - not very far from Dr Thomas'. I was pleased that he had his own waiting area and reception. I liked that idea. More homely this way. And guess what? My guess was right - he was Ps Chew's brother - you know, Ps Chew from SIB? Yup.. this is his bro. I just had to ask. So the check up started off something like this.

"You are our fourth gynea.."

"How come?"

"The first was from Pantai, Dr Kiren, and we didn't like the ambience, so we switched to Dr Delaila but she got robbed outside her clinic."

"Oh, I heard what happened to her. She is from SDMC, right?"

"Yes."

"I know her."

"So then, I decided to go to my mom's gynea. Dr Thomas."

"Oh."

"But he..."

"Yea, he went for head surgery - fell down, isn't it?"

"Yeah... =/ "

"Oh man."

"So,.. you better be careful." XD

Anyways, to cut the long story short, he was a Christian and all, and we spent our next few months stuck with him. Prices were slightly more than both Kiren and Delaila but he did a lot of talking during our consultation, so I guess it measured up.
